Core Mode is the first of two available game modes in Betraya.io, the other being Hide n' Seek Mode. Core Mode used to be separate from Mimic Mode, but they have since merged, allowing players with leadership in a server to permit or disallow the mimic role. It is heavily inspired by social deduction games, such as Among Us, and contains most of the earlier game's fundamental features.

Premise[]

Between six and twelve players enter a lobby and the player with leadership begins the game. Everyone is secretly assigned their own role, which half to the majority are crewmates. The leader can turn on and off the roles of jester, sheriff, and mimic outside of the round, but crewmates and betrayers will always be present in a game. Crewmates need to complete all of their tasks whether or not they are alive, betrayers need to "kill" other players without anyone voting them out in meetings, and the other players must do as the game prescribes.

Betrayers can also temporarily blind and disrupt other players, but they can never blind themselves or use the disrupt function to eliminate themselves from the game. Betrayers that are mimics sacrifice their ability to blind other players by morphing into the appearance and nametag of a crewmate, and they can use this to their advantage by making crewmates look suspicious.

If there is a jester, they can distract other players by making themselves look suspicious, but they should be wary of sheriffs and betrayers that can kill them and essentially make them lose the round. if there is a sheriff, they can "kill" players while in their good role, but if they kill a crewmate, they will also "die" and become ghosts.
