A Jester is one of the five available roles in Betrayal.io and is one of three malevolent roles. They should fake tasks in a way that convinces surrounding crewmates that they are a Betrayer, follow players while not going close enough to them to cause panic, and act suspicious overall. They should avoid interacting with betrayers, mimics, and sheriffs who have the ability to "kill" the Jester without consequence.
Functions of a Jester[]
Jesters can:
- Accuse other players without evidence to increase other players' suspicions of them.
- Bait other players...
- ...into following them to a body and let the other player(s) report them in meetings.
- ...into reporting bodies that they stood on but have not "killed" by themselves.
- Report bodies without anyone around them, tell the truth about its location, and hope to be voted out.
- Falsely report being at locations that they were not present in, but other players were, to increase suspicion.
- Follow crewmates at a distance.
Limitations of a Jester[]
Jesters cannot:
- Complete tasks legitimately: the game UI states that Jesters have already completed their tasks out-of-game.
- "Kill" other players.
- Transform into other players' forms.
- Know the exact roles of other players.
Criticism[]
The Jester is almost universally considered to be an annoying role, since it leads betrayers to be ridiculously obvious and be dismissed as "Jesters," making the game extremely difficult and slow.
