Mimic selection cutscene before a Mimic Mode game.
A Mimic is one of the five available roles in Betrayal.io and is one of three malevolent roles. They should fake tasks in ways that convince surrounding crewmates that they are safe, change forms to confuse crewmates, and "kill" crewmates and the Sheriff (in Sheriff games for Mimic Mode).
Functions of a Mimic[]
Mimics can:
- "kill" crewmates, the Sheriff, and the Jester.
- know the role of another Betrayer or Mimic in a Core Mode or Mimic Mode game, respectively.
- use vents around the map to
- hide.
- sneak around undetected.
- surprise and "kill" enemies more easily.
- "kill" the Jester so that they cannot win.
- team with crewmates to gain their trust later in the game.
- sabotage entranceways and sabotage tasks to
- bait crewmates to one location while "killing" the first player to arrive.
- bait crewmates to one location while "killing" someone far away.
- gain trust of benevolent arrivals by fixing the sabotage with them.
- eventually "kill" crewmates and the Sheriff (in Sheriff games) by Abduction, Possession, or Robot Malfunction without "killing" them directly.
- Change their form to match the name, number, and appearance of the player they "mimic" for a temporary period of time.
Limitations of a Mimic[]
Mimics cannot:
- kill" the other Betrayer or Mimic in multi-Betrayer games.
- know the exact role of non-Betrayers or non-Mimics.
Etiquette[]
When playing as a Mimic, it is polite to:
- not play as a troll
- in a way that incriminates the other Betrayer or Mimic in multi-Betrayer games of nine or more participants.
- in a way that purposefully incriminates yourself.
- not team
- use Voice to communicate (it is faster to communicate this way).
- not leave a lobby until an active game is complete.
